Tennessee Wing Commander, Col. Bill Lane, has approved use of the Tenn. Wing members to volunteer to assist Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) in staffing welcome centers and rest areas along the Tennessee interstates and highways during the winter storm.

If you would like to volunteer (hand out coffee, water, warmth, clean restrooms, etc.) for stranded motorists at predetermined locations. Please contact Gary Ward at 615-218-6114, wardg@tn185.org; or David Sledge at 615-339-7466, david.sledge@tn.gov.
This activity will need to operate 24 hours a day for approximately three days. Everything is expected to be set up and ready to start at 6 p.m. tonight (Friday, December 6, 2013).

Areas to cover include rest areas along I-40 and I-24. Do not show up to rest areas without contacting Gary or David first so you are in the right place at the right time. It is possible that volunteers may not be needed.
Additionally, if your Squadron is able to assist, please contact your Group:
Group 1: Scott Alley, jscottalley@charter.net
Group 3: Steve Neer, steve.neer@tncap.us
Group 4: Jason Robinson, privaterobinson2002@yahoo.com
Group POCs will coordinate with Wing, which coordinate with TEMA for our availability.

All members are to be aware of the dangers associated with icing conditions and be prepared before attempting to be out in the bad weather this weekend.

Locations include six rest areas on I-40 from Jackson to Dickson Co., on I-24 between Nashville and Clarksville (exit 19, 35, and Old Hickory Blvd); Tennessee Welcome Centers at four locations, #3: I-155, mile marker 8.7, eastbound Dyer Co., #4: I-24, mile marker .4, eastbound, Montgomery Co., #5: I-65, mile marker 121.0, southbound, Robertson Co., and #7, I-40, mile marker 267, east/westbound, Smith Co.

This is an Emergency Services Mission, however, at this time, there is no reimbursement for mission expenses. TEMA will determine when the effort will officially begin and end.

Please send any photos of our TN Wing CAP members in action during this mission to Capt. Robin Olsen, at 257150@tncap.us. Be sure to identify CAP members by name, rank, and unit!
